VISUAL PRESENTATION
INTRODUCTION
The term visual presentation is used
to refer to the actual presentation of information through a visible medium
such as text or images. Visual presentation has a lot to do with communicating
through visual aids and is desired as the conveyance of ideas and information
in forms that can read or looked upon. Visual communication in part or whole
relies on vision, and is primarily presented or expressed with two dimensional
images, it includes signs, typography, drawing, graphic design, illustration,
industrial design, advertising, animation colour and electronic resources. It
also explores the idea that a visual message accompanying text has a greater
power to inform, educate or persuade a person or audience.
THE IMPORTANCE OF VISUAL PRESENTATION TO THE OFFICE AND THE AUDIENCE.
Effective communication can be quite
challenging, especially when making a presentation or giving a speech. In order
for the communication to be effective, you must keep the attention of the
listeners and deliver the information in such a way that it is fully understood.
One of the most effective ways to get your message across and make it memorable
is with visual presentation. Some importance of Visual presentation is as
follows:
1. It Aids Comprehension: Not everyone understands concepts and information at the same rate.
Some people can understand messages quickly while others need help to grasp
what is being said. Visual presentations is a way of further explanation. If
some people are visual/audio learners, the visual presentation may be necessary
for comprehension. Visual presentation create repetition and the more
repetition in communication, the greater the chances that your audience will
understand and remember effectively. It is a facilitator for an increased and
improved understanding in a communication process.
2. It Aids in Organizing Communication: Visual presentation can be used to organize
communication, making it easier to remember points made in an interaction. The
introduction of different visual aids (picture/images) for each point of a
speech using presentation helps the mind to separate messages into smaller
chunks of information. The visual presentation also creates a point of
reference for the mind to quickly refer to when attempting to retrieve
information. This is to say that it gives the communication (lecture, meeting,
lesson etc) a structure and special form that aid the understanding of
information.
3. Improve Attention Span: Everyone has a limited attention span in communication.
Once this capacity is spent, the mind will decrease its ability to retain
information and listen effectively. Using visual presentation refreshes the
mind and engages it in a different way, renewing the attention span. Visual
presentation keeps the mind entertained and therefore actively sharp and ready
to receive information that can be of great value to the audience and the
office.
4. It Creates a Vocal Point: In visual presentation the speaker is helped to stay on
track on his point of communication. If there is any one central visual aid,
the speaker can use, then the speaker’s thoughts and audience’s attention will
stay on course. There’s nothing worse than listening to speaker ramble and lose
the audience. A visual presentation assists in avoiding such a scenario in a
complete communication process.
5. It Helps in Memory: The office of Training and Education has reported that psychologist and
educators have found the use of visual tools leads to a retention of
information rate three days after a meeting or other event that was six time
greater that when the information is presented by the spoken word alone. Visual
presentation allows the speaker to use verbal and non verbal communication to
solidify the message and provide a point of reference for the mind.
6. Visual Presentation Saves Time: Using visual presentation in the office for communicating
or lectures is of great relevance to both the office and the audience. It saves
business time, especially if the subject matter contains information that may
be too lengthy for written or oral communication. The use of visual
presentation to show pie charts, graphs, diagrams, photographs, video shorts
and animation can often explain subject matters quickly as fast as possible and
in a manner that is more easily absorbed by the audience. Time is valuable in
every organization, so the importance of timely and effective communication is
the prime consideration of visual presentation like the projector.
